Ridge Augmentation (Bone Grafting)

Many patients have their teeth removed before they decide they want a dental implant, and others have bone loss already at the time the tooth was removed due to existing infection. When this happens, the jawbone reduces in size (called atrophy) in the area of the future dental implant. This means additional procedures may be needed to make the implant successful long term; oftentimes, more bone needs to be added prior to the implants being placed. Fortunately, dental implants are an option for these patients today because of the advances in bone grafting procedures. For these patients, the bone grafting is necessary prior to the implants being placed, but allows patients to have implants who could not have them before. These procedures could be performed on a single missing tooth site site to the entire ridge. With our advanced technology, patients will have minimal down time after the procedure.

Bone grafting is very technique sensitive, and therefore you want a clinician performing the procedure who has the appropriate experience and training, as well as all the appropriate materials available to perform the procedure efficiently, while minimizing discomfort for the patient. At Implant & Periodontal Therapy, all the doctors have advanced training in bone grafting procedures prior to implant placement. We are a leader in the Tampa area in these types of procedures. There are many techniques available now, some of them include:

  • Guided Bone Regeneration

  • Titanium Mesh/BMP-2

  • Block Grafts

  • Ridge Split Procedure

  • Ridge Preservation after tooth extraction
